Regenerative Thermal Oxidation (RTO) is a technology widely used in the industry. It allows Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and odours treatment in an efficient way, for a wide range of flow rates and concentrations. It is valid for the most part of Volatile Organic Compounds and oxidizable substances at high temperatures, such as carbon monoxide (CO).
This technology heats up polluted gas at high temperatures, above 750 ºC, for an appropriate time with oxygen presence in order to ensure that the oxidation is carried out.
The equipment has a thermal regeneration system. It consists in a ceramic heat accumulator/exchanger and their related valves for gas flow control. This configuration allows that most part of required heat (> 95%) for reaching the oxidation temperature is obtained from previously heated up and purified gases.
Thermal regeneration provides high thermal efficiency, reaching in many cases the self-sustained point. This allows equipment without auxiliary fuel usage to perform the air purification. VOCs concentration needed in order to reach this condition is 1.4 -2.2 g/Nm3, depending on solvents processed.
Key highlights:
Wide range of flow rates, concentrations and COVs typology.
High COVs destruction efficiency.
Low O&M costs.
Strength and durability machinery.
Energy recovery solutions possibility.
Hot-bypass for oxidation chamber temperature control.
Self-cleaning system (Burnout or bake out).
Two canister/multi-canister configurations.
Special design for compounds with silicon.
PLC automatic control of the whole system.
Forced or induced draft fan depending on the application.
In the cases that is required, RTO can be integrated with other auxiliary technologies in order to every project adaptation:
High flows with low concentrations: Zeolite Rotor-Concentrator.
Dust in gases to be treated: Filtration system.
Presence or generation of acids: Waste gas scrubbing.
High concentrations: Dilution systems with concentration control.
Detailed and adapted solution for each application.
